Travel alot? try iPass

Travel alot? need to connect to WiFi hotspots but don’t want to pay a $10 day rate? Well I might be able to help you … since you have to be careful with your data cost on those silly Canadian data plans .. tethering your laptop to your brand new iPhone may not be a viable option.

Tethering is a way of connecting your laptop to the internet over a GSM cell phone signal. Most phones that are 3G can act almost like a modem when connected to your laptop with a USB cable so theoretically you can connect ANYWHERE! … however most mobile providers don’t provide data plans that can support the heavy amount of data being transferred by a laptop so it could be a very expensive way to stay online.

However, I wanted to share iPass with you…… Its a monthly subscription service which gives you access to all wifi spots in North America. I have a plan through my company and I believe most big companies have it … you just need to find out how to get it installed, so time to suck up to those hardworking IT guys in your office!

I’ve been using it for a few years and actually I haven’t had a problem with not being able to connect where I know there is WiFi available. It even works at the Starbucks in Cozumel, Mexico. Check out their website on http://www.ipassconnect.com

Starbucks, Some Hotels, Mcdonalds, Museums, Libraries, Airports all have a deal with iPass that allow you to connect to their wifi network. With plans starting at $29.95 per month and mobile plans starting at $9.95 doesn’t seem that bad eh?
